Intel announces world's fastest office processor
Intel has officially announced its new Core i9-12900KS processor, an unlocked version of its flagship Core i9-12900K processor that increases the maximum enhanced frequency of 5.5 GHz for what the company claims is the world's fastest office processor.
Core i9-12900KS shares much in common with previous processors, including the same 16 cores (divided between eight performance cores, eight efficiency cores), 24 threads and 30 MB of L3 cache.
But Intel boosted the core power from 125 watts to 150 watts and allowed core i9-12900KS to run without a lock. This allows access to 5.5 GHz (compared to the top speed of 5.2 GHz via Core i9-12900K).
AMD claimed earlier in March to have the title of the world's fastest gaming processor when it announced the availability of the new Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor. Like Intel, AMD offers an upgraded version of its older model (Ryzen 7 5800).
But AMD also introduced the new 3D V-Cache technology to provide speeds that it claims to outperform core i9-12900K.
Intel's new processor comes at $740
The Ryzen 7 5800X3D is cheaper than core i9-12900KS, priced at $449 compared to Intel's $739.
But Intel claims to outperform AMD through processing frequency. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D promotes a maximum enhanced frequency of 4.5 GHz, compared to intel's new maximum frequency of 5.5 GHz.
For the actual comparison between Ryzen 7 5800X3D and Core i9-12900KS. It must wait until both chips arrive in April.
AMD also gets another chance to crown later this year as well. That's when the Ryzen 7000 desktop chips arrive in the second half of 2022.
Core i9-12900KS will be available from April 5 at the recommended consumer price of $740. This represents a significant increase from the recommended price of $590 for the Core i9-12900K processor, which is almost impossible to find at the company's recommended price.
In other words, you should probably expect to have to pay an additional price in excess of $740 for core i9-12900KS when it arrives next month.
